VA Medical Center
Positioned less than 30 miles from Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Services, Temple, Texas, is home to a growing number of military veterans. Among the specialists caring for them are the professionals at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS).
The largest VA medical consortium in Texas and the fourth largest in the United States, CTVHCS serves more than 250,000 veterans across 39 Texas counties each year.
The Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple is home to an $11.5 million VA Research Institute.
The main CTVHCS campus, housed at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple, includes a full-service teaching hospital that serves as the medical and surgical referral center for all system campuses. The medical center is a partner of the Temple Medical and Educational District (TMED), alongside Baylor Scott & White Health, Temple Health and Bioscience District and Temple College. Also at the Temple campus is a domiciliary, a new community living center, a trauma recovery unit, a state veterans home, and an $11.5 million VA Research Institute.
The system’s workforce is comprised of professionals and workers trained to support Temple’s expansive health and life sciences sector, with much of the talent cultivated at local higher education institutions including Texas A&M University – Central Texas and Temple College. Overall, more than 40% of Temple’s workforce is employed in the healthcare sector.
