“Temple’s strong population and income growth helped support the city’s high ranking on our list,” NerdWallet Analyst Maggie Clark said. “The population of Temple increased by 13.2 percent between 2009 and 2012, while incomes grew by 12 percent during the same period.”
Texas experienced more high-paying job growth than the rest of the country during the last 13 years, according to new research conducted by the Dallas Federal Reserve. Texas has also been the top domestic immigration destination in the U.S. since 2006.
Businesses are relocating to Texas in droves, hiring new employees, and raising salaries for existing workers.
To find the fastest growing cities in Texas, NerdWallet evaluated 126 cities, towns and census-designated places and examined the following variables: population growth, employment growth and income growth. The overall score for each city was derived from each of these measures:
1. Population growth from 2009 to 2012 made up 33.3 percent of the total score. Data for the working-age population (16 years and older) comes from the 2012 U.S. Census American Community Survey three-year estimate for all places in the state, Table CP 03.
2. Employment growth from 2009 to 2012 made up 33.3 percent of the total score. Data for the percent of employed residents comes from the 2012 U.S. Census American Community Survey three-year estimate for all places in the state, Table CP 03.
3. Income growth from 2009 to 2012 made up 33.3 percent of the total score. Data for the median earnings for workers comes from the 2012 U.S. Census American Community Survey three-year estimate for all places in the state, Table CP 03.
